Perplexity Pages are AI-assisted, publicly indexable articles that any Perplexity user can generate, edit, and publish directly on perplexity.ai — and they rank in both Perplexity's own answer engine and traditional Google search. Launched in May 2024, Pages turned Perplexity from a pure answer engine into a publishing platform, and law firms in Canada and the United States are only beginning to exploit it as a marketing channel.
The strategic logic is simple: Perplexity preferentially surfaces its own Pages inside answers, and Pages inherit the domain authority of perplexity.ai — a site with tens of millions of monthly visitors. A well-built Page on "how contingency fees work in Ontario" or "Texas non-compete enforceability after the FTC rule" can earn visibility that a new law-firm blog post would take months to build on its own domain. Used correctly, Pages become an authority satellite that points prospects and citation equity back to your firm's site.
Competitively, the window matters: legal publishers and a handful of marketing-forward firms are already occupying high-volume legal questions on Pages, but jurisdiction-specific long-tail questions — the ones that actually precede a consultation — remain largely unclaimed in both countries. Early, accurate Pages on those questions tend to hold their position, because Perplexity has little incentive to replace a well-maintained source.
This guide explains how Pages work, where they fit in a legal marketing stack, and the workflow firms use to publish Pages that feed the broader Perplexity visibility strategy without cannibalizing their own content.
A Perplexity Page is created from the "Pages" tab in a Perplexity account: you enter a topic prompt, choose an audience level (beginner, intermediate, expert), and Perplexity drafts a structured article with sections, images, and citations that you can then edit section by section. Every published Page gets a public URL under perplexity.ai/page/, is crawlable by Googlebot, and appears in Perplexity's internal discovery feed.
Three properties make Pages unusually powerful for legal marketing:
Structurally, a strong legal Page mirrors what works on your own site: a definition-style opening that answers the core question in the first two sentences, section headings phrased as the sub-questions clients ask, and concrete figures — filing fees, limitation periods, income thresholds — stated with their effective year. Pages that lead with throat-clearing ("The legal landscape is constantly evolving...") underperform in both engagement and answer-box pickup, exactly as they do everywhere else in AI search.
One structural constraint to plan around: you do not control a Page's URL slug precisely, and Perplexity may suggest related Pages by other authors alongside yours. Treat each Page as a persuasive citation source rather than a landing page — its job is to be the most accurate, most current document on a narrow question, with your firm's site as the natural next click for anyone who needs advice rather than information.
The highest-ROI workflow is to treat Pages as top-of-funnel satellites for topics where your own site is not yet authoritative. Start with 3–5 Pages per practice area, each targeting a question your intake team hears weekly. In Canada, that might be "how long does a divorce take in Alberta" or "small claims court limits by province"; in the US, "average workers' comp settlement for a back injury" or "Chapter 7 income limits by state." Jurisdiction-specific questions are underserved on Pages and convert best.
For each Page: generate the draft, then rewrite the opening of every section so the first sentence answers the question directly — the same direct-answer-first discipline covered in our guide to optimizing content for Perplexity. Replace weak citations with authoritative ones, including one or two links to your firm's own deep guides. Keep the Page genuinely educational; Pages that read as advertisements get poor engagement and no answer-box pickup.
Budget roughly 90 minutes per Page for a lawyer-reviewed draft: 15 minutes of generation and prompting, 45 minutes of accuracy editing against primary sources, 20 minutes of citation curation, and a final compliance pass. A paralegal or marketing coordinator can run the first three steps with a lawyer signing off — the same review workflow most firms already use for blog content. Firms publishing two Pages per month per practice area build a meaningful satellite footprint within two quarters without straining anyone's docket.
Publish under a named professional account, not an anonymous one. Perplexity displays the author, and a consistent author identity across multiple legal Pages compounds into an entity signal — the same mechanism that drives Perplexity citations for law firm websites.
Pages generate awareness and authority, not direct intake — a Page cannot host your consultation form. Their conversion path is indirect: reader clicks a citation to your site, or searches your firm by name after seeing the author byline. Firms tracking this typically see Pages contribute assisted conversions rather than last-click leads, so measure them with branded-search lift and referral traffic from perplexity.ai, not lead forms alone.
Set expectations by funnel stage. A portfolio of ten well-maintained Pages typically produces three measurable effects within a quarter: modest but consistent referral clicks from Page citations to the firm site (often 50–200 sessions per month once several Pages index), a measurable lift in branded impressions in Google Search Console as readers search the firm or author by name, and — the least visible but most valuable — an expanded set of authoritative documents associating your firm's entity with its practice areas, which feeds every AI engine's confidence when it next answers a recommendation query in your market.
Two cautions. First, advertising and law society rules still apply: Pages published by a lawyer or firm are lawyer advertising in most US states and marketing under Canadian law society rules, so avoid outcome guarantees, comparative superiority claims, and anything that could create an inadvertent lawyer-client relationship. Include a jurisdiction note and an "informational only" disclaimer. Second, never paste client facts into the Page generator — treat it like any public AI tool for confidentiality purposes.
Pages work best as one layer of a three-layer system: (1) deep, schema-rich content on your own domain that earns direct citations; (2) Pages and third-party profiles that reinforce your entity and link back; (3) interactive assets — calculators and guided tools like our legal wizards — that give AI engines something uniquely quotable to reference. Firms that run all three layers get cited for both informational and "best law firm for X" queries, while single-layer competitors appear only sporadically.
Refresh each Page quarterly. Perplexity favors recently updated sources, and legal answers age fast — limitation periods, fee thresholds, and statutory amounts change annually in most provinces and states. A stale Page citing 2024 figures will eventually be displaced by a fresher source.
Avoid the one real strategic risk: cannibalization. Never build a Page on a query your own site already wins or is close to winning — you would be handing your ranking to a domain you do not own. The clean division of labor is Pages for questions where your domain has no realistic near-term shot (broad national questions, adjacent-jurisdiction questions, very fresh legal developments) and your own site for everything in your core market. Review the split quarterly as your domain authority grows; questions that warranted a Page in year one often deserve a native article by year two.
